National Day of Prayer Indiana Youth Task Force High School Essay Oratorical Contest
For complete details please contact: Tom Walker, Director 865 Country Walk Court Brownsburg, IN 46112 National Day of Prayer, Indiana High School Essay Oratorical Contest Indiana continues to host the High School Essay and Oratorical Contest for the National Day of Prayer. The first place winner becomes the Indiana Youth Ambassador and travels to Washington, D.C. for the national observance. Contestants from public, private, and home schools will write their essays based on the theme of the National Day of Prayer, chosen by Mrs. James Dobson (Shirley), the National Day of Prayer Chairperson. Our history: Hannah Wyatt, John Lechenby, and Amy Summer were the first place winners who served as Indiana Youth Ambassador for the National Day of Prayer in 2001, 2002 and 2003, respectively. These students were also invited to speak at the Pentagon in Washington D C for there National Day of Prayer observance on the first Thursday of May. One of only 3 days... Since our nation’s beginning, Congress has established only three national days of observance—the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and the National Day of Prayer (NDP). It is our right and duty to observe each of these days. These three days are laws of our nation, and the NDP haven been signed and passed twice by congress. In 1988, NDP passed by 100 percent vote in favor of the law stating it will always be held on the first Thursday of May. In the past, Indiana has had a High School Essay and Oratorical Contest where first place winner travels to Washington, D.C. for the national observance. Contestants from both public, private schools and home schoolers write their essays based on the theme of the NDP. In 2001, first place winner Hannah Wyatt became Indiana’s Youth Ambassador for the National Day of Prayer. Hannah spent three days in Washington, D.C. and gave her speech at the Pentagon on May 3, 2001, the 50th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer. Hannah received a standing ovation. She spook with Colson and Miss America. 2002, first place winner, John Lechenby spent three days in Washington, gave his speech at the Pentagon on May 2, 2002. John spook with Dr. Ravi Zacharias. As John was speaking, three times all branches of the military interrupted him to give shouts and praise to God and Jesus. 2003 first place winner Amy Summer who is currently serving as Indiana’s Youth Ambassador for the National Day of Prayer. Amy spent three days in Washington, and will spook at the Pentagon, on May 1, 2003, 52nd. Anniversary of the National Day of Prayer, with Luis Palau and Kurt Warner, The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir will be there also. Amy received a standing ovation.
